Lost in Translation!

As many of you have seen the movie, many things in Japan get lost in translation. This happened to my dad when we went out to Chili's one night. During their stay, there was a brief time that alcohol was not allowed to be sold on base or at any base restaurants. No, it had nothing to do with them, it had to do with a young sailor who made the wrong decision one night. Needless to say we arrived at Chili's to find out this information and were seated at our table. A nice Japanese waitress came to take our order and Dad ordered a non-alcoholic beer. After making sure she understood she went off and returned some time later with a root beer. Yes is was non alcoholic but not what he had in mind. He proceeded to the bar and order an O'Doul's, and when we showed it to the waitress she still didn't understand. Oh well he got a beer and a root beer, what can you do? This happens a lot here in Japan. At 2 different lunches we went to they didn't get one whole order. Dad's was first to be missed at McDonald's and then Harry's was skipped at a little restaurant we went to. At least here there is an excuse why things get lost, in the US everyone is supposed to speak English, but many things these days get lost in translation also. If you haven't seen the movie with Bill Murray it is a weird movie but many things are exactly how you would find them in Japan. I guess you have to come and visit so that you can understand the movie better.
