Things in Japan!
I have been thinking in my head and wondering what you would all
find interesting about Japan and thought I would share some things.
There is no tipping here, you don't tip anywhere, meals, taxis, hotels.
It is actually quite nice and a good change of pace but many Americans
like myself forget at first. It is also custom for a male to carry his
girlfriend's purse while they are walking. I am not sure what happens
once they are married but since no one wears wedding rings you can't tell
that either.
Recently Harry and I went shopping at Grandberry Mall and he bought
a t- shirt at the store, since the it was raining outside the store thought
it appropiate to cover the bag so the package wouldn't get wet. Would they ever think of this in the US?
Another thing that American's find sleezy but is normal in Japan is hourly
room rates at many hotels. It is common here for children to live with there
parents until they are married and many once they are married so when dating they
need a private place to get away. This hotels come in handy for them. It is also
common to have curtains on the windows of back seats of cars for couple to get private time. I don't have any pictures of this yet but will look.
Many men will never pour there own drink at a table if women are present. It is
considered the women's role to pour the mens drink at home or in a restaurant.
