For our Memorial Day adventure we went to the Great Buddha in
Kamakura. While there are no records that say exactly when construction on the Buddha was started, it's estimated that it was begun some time around 1270. The Buddha, itself, is about 44 feet tall and is made of copper. It used to be housed in a large enclosure, but about 500 years ago, they decided to let it weather out the elements. You can go inside it, but there's not much to see--what do you expect...it's a big copper Buddha! We had a great time and met some new people that have only been here 3 days, and they ventured out to take on the trains. We were impressed at there ambition. We had a great time and Sydney was a good girl even while missing her nap and riding the trains. We then traveled back to Kamakura and looked around the main city. Kamakura was one of the capital cities before Tokyo. Harry tried Mo's Burgers which is the "premier hamburger place" here, after the mix up at the restaurant that we first went to. The term "lost in translation" fits here. We tried to order 2 things for lunch and only ended up with one so I got mine but Harry never got his. This restaurant also had some squirrels that dined with us and entertained Sydney. This is the door frame of the restaurant and the lady there leaves out nuts for the squirrels.
